5 on Friday...On Saturday

1.  Adult Break
Tuesday night David and I enjoyed an evening without the kids.  We managed to get some Christmas shopping done and go out for dinner.  We contemplated going to see a movie, as this is one activity we really enjoyed prior to having kids, but being able to be home without obligations was way too enticing.  What a nice break it was.  Sometimes I feel like David and I communicate more through text messaging than we do conversation so it was great "catching up."

2. Traveling Home
David took the kids halfway to my parents house on Tuesday, allowing us to have our free evening.  I was planning on driving home on Wednesday after work but was suprised with a "free" 'day off work.  I woke up Wednesday to way too much snow so I took my time getting packed and ready (which was amazing) and made the trek up North with Mason.

3.  Tradition
If there is one thing we are strong about in our family, it's tradition.  Sometimes I go over the top and try to fit every little thing in but I never regret it.  One activity that has been in my family for over 50 years is to make the Cerwick Family Christmas Cookies.  The recipe has a "secret" ingredient and many people have to adjust to the flavor of it.  They taste awesome right out of the oven, better with our special frosting and sprinkles, and amazing after six months left in the freezer.  Yes, we always make tons so we have some to enjoy on the boat in the summer as well.  Tess couldn't wait to start cooking so we cut out all the cookies on Wednesday and decorated them later in the weekend when we had the other cousins to help.  We only did a half batch this year (approximately 200 cookies).

My parents have had a nativity set on display for as long as I can remember.  It was neat telling Tessa about it once it was dark and all lit up.  After we had our "talk" she asked if her birthday was coming soon since Jesus was having his already.  At least she took something from the story, right?

4. Thanksgiving
Daddy worked this holiday so I spent my day with my two favorite little turkeys.  I thought it would be easier as the years went by to adjust to him missing holidays.  That really isn't the case.  I was very glad the weather cooperated so we could travel to see my parents, siblings, and nieces and nephews.

5.  Black Friday
I'm really not a fan of this so-called holiday.  Our society has taken it too far and we are forcing people away from their families on Thanksgiving so others can shop.  I feel awful for those that had to be working instead of being at home with their loved ones.  You can all probably guess that I didn't partake in any shopping.  I did, however, spend money on Saturday (and I got an insane deal - better than those displayed on Thursday or Friday).
