Yesterday was a big day at the Burn’s household…the builders
started! We knew we wanted to finish our
basement as soon as possible once we moved in but with new jobs, kids starting
daycare for the first time, summer schedules, etc. it just wasn’t happening.
We toyed with the notion of finishing it ourselves since we
(David) had done that on our last house.
Although we LOVED how it turned out, it took nearly a year and a half
before it was complete. When your
“builder” works 24 hour shifts and you have kids, it doesn’t leave a lot of
free time for projects. Plus, in all
honesty, I didn’t have patience for that all over again. That being said, we started interviewing
companies to finish the basement for us.
After David met with at least 10 different builders, I met with his top
candidates. We unanimously decided on a
builder who could do the job using all the materials we wanted while staying
within our budget; win-win.
There are so many reasons I am excited for the basement to
be complete.
1.
The basement will be finished in time for me to
have my family stay at our house during Christmas.
2.
I can FINALLY take all the kids toys out of my
living room and put them out-of-sight.
Not only does this make the clutter freak in me happy, it gives the kids
so much more room to play and make their mess.
3.
The extra furniture in our main floor living
room can be moved to its place so I can decorate!
Now here comes the big decision. What paint colors do I want the builders to use in the
basement? There are two windows in the
living room downstairs and one in the bedroom so the lighting isn’t very
bright. I did the main floor a light
shade of grey and I love it! Should I
take the same color downstairs or do something different? Any ideas or suggestions are very much
appreciated.

Ugh, I wish I could help. We just recently finished our basement too (we love it) but I am definitely struggling in the decoration department. We painted our walls a gray color, but that's as far as we've gotten.
