Believe it or not we managed to make it three weeks without either child visiting the doctor. As a reward, we took both of them to the urgent care this past weekend.
On Thursday evening I picked the kids up from school and I immediately noticed the sign on the door displaying the most recent illness populating Brady's classroom. I love how they post awareness of what other children have gotten sick with so parents are informed, but really I see it only as impending doom that will likely infect our household. Sure enough, that evening Brady started displaying symptoms of illness. It's just my luck that the "infected" child's last day of school was the prior Tuesday, same as Brady. Low and behold the fever came, accompanied by fussiness and a slightly raised red rash all over his trunk that quickly spread to his face. I also noticed that Tessa had the same rash on her tummy once I got home from work on Friday evening.
Rememeber last Friday's post when I mentioned that we finally had a weekend with everyone home? We planned evenings and events with friends and family and lots of relaxation together. Once again, all those plans were cancelled.
Saturday morning we took the kids to the clinic. Bothof them were diagnosed with strep throat/scarlet fever (which explains the rash). I mean, is that really still around?? Leave it to my children to catch this.

By Sunday, after a few rounds of antibiotics, the kids were feeling better. We I had cabin fever so we ran to Target to get some supplies and then went home to make cinnamon ornaments. I honestly can't remember doing these since Sunday school class, and I'm pretty sure that was when I was in the third grade. Tess absolutely loved it, I loved making the memories, and the kitchen smelled amazing. We needed to do something to brighten the mood of our completely altered plan weekend.
Monday began like any other day, except David and I woke with awful sore throats. He ended up staying home while I braved it into work. Bad idea. I left around lunch time and stopped by the pharmacy for our antibiotics. It was a rough parenting night for the two of us yet we managed to get dinner made and Tess to gymnastics (even though I made multiple attempts at trying to coerce her into taking a night off). Overall we survived, we both feel a million times better today, and Tess had a ball at class.

Someday I'll take photos that aren't through the glass. ;)
Tonight we are kid free for the first time for as long as I can remember and hopefully we can make up for these crazy last few days by enjoying a night out. Did I just jinx it?!
