1. Science Center
I recently took a day off of work just because. The weather wasn’t lovely as I had hoped, so
instead of taking a trip to the pumpkin patch, we visited the science center
for the first time. There were tons of
exhibits to visit and a multitude of activities to keep the kids engaged. There was quite a bit of it that was too much
for the kids to comprehend to the full extent, but they did attempt to tailor
everything to allow people of all ages to enjoy it. I secretly want to go back sometime sans kids
so that I can read more and experiment myself…the science nerd that I am.
This was my favorite part, the weather area! I have openly expressed about a million times
how I wished I would have gone into this field.
I’m sure it isn’t as amazing as I picture in my mind. But, the thought of waking up super early and
having my hair, make-up, and wardrobe picked out for me – getting to be on
television – and discuss and follow weather…what’s not to like?! Plus, talk about job security because you can
be wrong every single day….partly cloudy and a 30% chance of rain! If you’re a meteorologist you’re probably thinking
she doesn’t have a clue and well, I don’t.
It just seems so wonderful to me so don’t tell me if it isn’t!
We spent a lot of time in toddler town. There was an entire bubble station, an area
to fish (which we had to pry Brady away from), little grocery store, kitchen,
etc. It was sort of magical for them!
We ended our few hours with some popcorn and had two kids
who fell asleep on the way home. I’d
call that a success.
2. Me & My Girl
One thing I am very conscious of doing is making sure to
pull a little time each day where I can have one on one time with both
kids. It’s particularly easy with Tess
as we get to have our girl bonding time while Brady naps. With him, I have to be creative and usually
try and set Tess up with a puzzle or a painting project. My girl loves cameras, photography, and
looking at photos so we had a little fun.
I must say I am getting pretty impressed on her shooting!
Last Saturday my cousin and her family were going to the zoo
for their yearly Halloween event called Night Eyes. All the kids come dressed up and you walk the
path of the zoo and get to trick-or-treat along the way. It was a fun event and I loved seeing our
little ones all dressed up in costumes together. I got a wonderful picture of all five kiddos
looking, but I have to wait and share until next week since the official
holiday is yet to come!
4. Carving Away
We The hubs carved our pumpkin this week. It was quite the event for everyone. David was insistent upon using tools to do
the carving but they were too loud for Tess.
That made her lose interest initially so I had to put on a Halloween
movie to engage her again-thank you Casper.

Then, little man realized he wasn’t a part of the fun and threw himself on the ground in a tizzy. Literally face down with his legs stretched so tight they lifted off the ground. I had to control myself from laughing! I let him play in my Tupperware drawer (which is secretly a nightmare for me if it becomes unorganized so this was a big step for OCD mommy). This settled him for a while until I finally just held him up to watch the rest of the carving process. Little dude doesn’t understand his allergies all the time, but with being pretty darn allergic to pumpkin; sticking his hands in there wasn’t a good choice. Finally, the tortuous process was done. I will light this darn pumpkin tonight and boy oh boy I hope the kiddos enjoy it. Whew!
5. Beggar’s Night
Well folks, tonight is the night! It’s Beggar’s Night in our small little town,
aka Halloween! Give me a few years and I’ll
be used to this schedule. I am planning
on leaving work early so I can grab the kids from school, make the commute
home, do dinner and get them dressed up before 6:00. The kids are excited and well, I think I am
too? Ha!
I know it will be a great time for the three of us once we get ready to
leave the house. Here’s to some yummy
treats, smiling faces, and fun with friends.

| This Was My Puppy When I Was A Baby - He Takes It Everywhere |
Side Note: Just an
update on Mr. Brady. He is still taking
antibiotics for another few days. He
finally got his appetite back around Wednesday and is sleeping a lot less now. You could say he’s nearly back to his old
self. We did speak with his specialist
in Iowa City again. It’s really
impossible to determine whether his current infection was from the procedure or
developed on its own. Given his track
record, it was more than likely from the procedure despite the
antibiotics. Although they do feel that
it could have been worse and/or developed sooner had we not used antibiotics so
I guess we’re thankful for that. The
current path we are going to take is wait and watch for another infection. If he does acquire one, we will begin
discussing our options for surgery.
There will not be any additional DMSA scan done. They feel it unnecessary to quantify the
damage to his kidneys because they know with each infection he gets, damage is
being done. They don’t want to put him
through a day long test that will only show them what they know, and they’d
still do surgery anyway. So, that’s where
we are now.
