1. What We’re Eating This Week
On Sunday I experimented with a new recipe of Spaghetti Squash Chow Mein. It was really good and I blogged the recipe yesterday so make sure to check that out if you’re itching to try something new and healthy. Meals for the rest of the week include our frequently made Chicken Avocado Burritos and hopefully another meal outside on the grill!
2. What I’m Reminiscing About
Lately I have been doing a lot of reflection on my life and how much time has really passed. I’m getting older, as we all are, and I have been thinking of what my life was like when my parents were my age. It’s almost surreal to think that they were once in the same position I am. It’s fun and interesting to think about the stages of life that we all encounter at some point. I think about what they did with us kids when they were my age, and how it’s the same and different from how I raise my kids and the activities we do now. For some reason I have been remembering my dad’s 40th birthday party and images of that day keep surfacing. My dad was once turning 40? That’s a milestone I will encounter sooner rather than later. Seeing images through my mind of these moments I clearly remember really put life into perspective.
3. What I’m Loving
Brady’s feet. I know this a weird one to write about but I can’t get enough of this little guy’s tootsies. I have always loved baby toes. They’re just so tiny, pudgy, and adorable. Little man is fairly petite for his age and I am eating up the sight of these little toes like you wouldn’t believe. He still has “baby” feet but I am noticing how they are beginning to lengthen out. Last night I couldn’t refrain from tickling and munching on them. He laughs so loudly and tries to squirm away, only to quickly respond “again!” These are the moments my friends.
4. What We’ve Been Up To
Since I post everything on the blog, I think you’re all well versed on what’s going on with us; Brady’s procedure, Tessa’s first haircut, etc. We’ve had a sickly household for the last couple weeks but Tess is finally getting over a cough and Mr. Brady is starting to feel better too. Both kids are sleeping a ton which has helped everyone.
5. What I’m Dreading
This is two-fold for me:
1. Daylight Savings
Its coming folks. I dread this day of the Fall every year. I know some people enjoy “falling back” for the extra hour of zzz’s but to me, it only means that darkness happens earlier! I despise leaving for work in the dark and driving home in the dark. I’m much more motivated and happier when I have sunlight.
2. Winter.
I heard the S-word on the radio this morning during my commute to work. Although it won’t be hitting our city tonight, there is a chance for snow in northern Iowa. All that means to me is that it’s getting closer and closer. It may look beautiful as it covers our yards on Christmas morning (the only time I love it) but thinking of driving through it the next couple of months makes me want to cry.
Okay, why do I live in the Midwest again?
6. What I’m Working On
For the past month or so, I have been putting the kids to bed a ½ hour earlier at night. Both my nuggets are night owls, so it’s been a challenge. However, I now feel like we’ve gotten into a groove and it’s made night time that much easier for them and me. I don’t like how our time together has gotten cut short but in the end it does benefit us all.
7. What I’m Excited About
This one sounds pretty cheesy, but I’m excited about friendships. You may have seen my post about moving where I expressed that even as an adult, moving is hard. You leave a certain part of your life behind and not only do you have to be responsible for the transition yourself, but for your children as well. As a mother I always put everyone else’s needs ahead of mine and because of that, my adjustment to my new environment has taken longer than anticipated. I am truly feeling like Iowa is becoming more home to me and meeting other wonderful people to share time with has been a blessing for me for sure.
8. What I’m Watching/Reading
I don’t watch TV shows so the only thing I’m seen lately is bits and pieces of Disney films here and there. I also haven’t made the time to read any new books but I do attempt to keep up on some good blog reads. This week I have been reading and re-reading the blog This Life I Live. The author of the blog is Rory. You may know him from the country music group (husband and wife) Joey & Rory. He has an amazing way with words. If you haven’t seen or read any of his blog, you should schedule a block of time to read it and say a little prayer.
9. What I’m Listening To
I’m loving Taylor Swifts song “Wildest Dreams “ and so does Miss Tess so we listen to that often. I always listen to our local Christian radio station on my way to work for some peaceful alone time. And…you better believe that Sunday I will be breaking out the Christmas music! With less than two months to celebrate the holiday, I need to make the most of it. One of my favorite Christmas CDs is by a college friend of mine who is an amazingly talented pianist, Matthew Mayer. He has other non-Christmas discs as well that are equally special.
10. What I’m Wearing
You may have read last week how I had been on the hunt for built-in bra tanks. Well, I’ve been wearing them non-stop in the evenings with the baggiest pair of sweatpants I own. I love being comfortable as I relax with the family at night. I don’t know if this qualifies or not, but I’ve also been wearing eye shadow a few days out of the week. On days where I’m a bit more tired than usual, it’s helping me look and feel a bit more alive…or so I think?
11. What I’m Doing This Weekend
It’s Halloween!! Well, Beggar’s Night here in Iowa (I’m still getting used to this one) so I will be taking my munchkins trick-or-treating on Friday night. I’ve mentioned it before that Halloween isn’t my favorite of holidays. However, seeing the excitement this past week with my kids has definitely gotten me more in the spooky spirit!
At the end of the weekend, we will be catching up with some old friends in Nebraska we haven’t seen in a very long time. It will be great to reminisce and catch up.
12. What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month
I am looking forward to all things holiday! Last year I spent Thanksgiving at my parent’s lake house with the kids. This year, the hubs has the holiday off so it will be nice to spend this one together. You don’t realize what a blessing being together with family on the holidays is, until you aren’t always given that option.
13. What Else Is New
When Tess was born, the hubs gifted me with a pearl necklace (her birthstone as a Junebug baby) and a bracelet with “Tessa Faith” engraved on it that I would pass on to her someday. As I was removing the bracelet to place on my nightstand, it snapped. I’m completely broken hearted about it as I wore this simple bangle each and every day. I’m not sure yet if it’s fixable but I plan to take it in to the jewelry store it was purchased at this weekend to see. If not, here’s hoping they have another one just like it that may work as a replacement (although it will never be the same).

I am not looking for daylight savings at all! I hate how early it gets dark!!
