First things first, sorry for my absence this week. Sometimes life happens. It's been a busy one nonetheless and something had to suffer...aka the blog. Here's what's up this week.
1. Not In The Clear
Remember two weeks ago how we had placed Brady on preventative antibiotics for his procedure so we wouldn't run the risk of him obtaining an infection....again? Well, it turns out that didn't work as we thought it would.
Last weekend he wasn't himself. He was still happy but very lethargic and wanted to sleep a lot. On Sunday I had a pretty awful day with him and his fevers were not being controlled as I would have liked with medication. Monday morning came and so did a visit to the pediatrician. Brady's throat looked awful and they immediately did a swab for strep throat. It came back negative but we did leave there with a diagnosis of hand, foot, and mouth. He has had this before only a little over two months ago.
With any high fever, they also like to pull a urine sample to make sure that any other illness isn't masking an underlying urinary or kidney infection. Brady wasn't so cooperative with offering a sample so we had to drop one off on Tuesday morning instead. The initial report came back suspicious so it was sent in for further culture.
Last night after dinner, we were taking a walk through town and received a call from the clinic. Brady's urine results came in. Not only does he have hand, foot, and mouth but also a UTI/kidney infection going on.
They wanted us to put him on antibiotics immediately so we drove into the city around 8pm to pick up a prescription. Our pediatrician will be speaking with our specialist in Iowa City today so we can figure out what the next step will be.
After we left Iowa City after the procedure, we were told absolutely no more infections or surgery is necessary because we need to protect his one good kidney. I'm not sure if this infection counts or not? We may wait and watch for another non-hospital inquired infection, we may have to repeat a DMSA scan (Lord help me) or we may be going to Iowa City for a surgery consult. I'm hoping for the first! More to follow on little man B. Here's to mommy staying home today to give lots of cuddles to my baby and to figure out what we are going to do next.
2. You've Been Booed
Monday night we were cleaning up from dinner when the front doorbell rang. Tess went to answer it only to find a fun Halloween bag full of treats and nobody around. Along with those treats came the cutest sign explaining that we had been 'booed' and to continue the fun around the neighborhood. She was so excited all night and asked me immediately if we could make some treats! My pantry wasn't properly stocked so we had to wait to pass on the fun. But boy did we have fun cooking some snacks, ringing doorbells, and running as fast as we could away from some houses. It's little activities like this that really get us in the spirit! I really don't think I have laughed as hard as I did that night for a long time!
3. Baby Hair
It's been four years and my baby girl finally had her first haircut! I had been going back and forth on whether or not it was really necessary or if I should hold out another four years. Seriously, her hair grows even slower than mine! Her hair was growing a bit longer only on the crown of her head in one spot and it was starting to make her ponytails and pig tails look a little off. So, I broke down and made an appointment to get it 'shaped up' a bit. She was a trooper! After watching little brother about 15 times she knew exactly what to do and what to expect. The whole ordeal only took about 15 minutes and we were out of there.
I kept Brady's hair from his first haircut and intended to do the same with Tess. There was so little that needed to be taken that I couldn't even get a good amount to keep so I will have to wait until next time on that. Even though only a little bit was taken, I couldn't believe how her curls all took shape and had knew life!
I picked the kids up from school the other day and ran to the mall before going home. I knew this was risky because I can never predict how traffic will be. Since I knew what I needed, I figured I could make a quick trip inside, get the kids back in the car, and still make it home before they were too hungry. I even planned ahead with drinks and a secret snack for them both. All was going well for the first 10 minutes or so and then Brady was getting antsy. I made the decision, which was a wrong one, to let him out of the stroller to walk beside us. At that same moment, Miss Tess wanted to change her attitude and start hiding from me in the clothes racks. I hate this game. I finally got her to listen and stick by me. Then I turn my head to Brady and realize...he's not there. I was surprisingly calm and looked close by thinking he was mimicking what his sister was doing. Yet, he wasn't hiding in any of the racks. I start yelling his name and pick up Tess and am pushing the stroller up and down through the aisles. There was still no Brady. It seemed like minutes had gone by even though it was only seconds. Other shoppers noticed my panic and they all started helping me look for him. Moments later a man says he sees him. I look over and there's my son climbing a four-step stool that he saw next to a wall and is preparing to jump off of it. I run (with Tess in tow) as fast as I can to get him down. I want to cry, I want to laugh, I want to freak out...but I just put him back in the stroller against his will as he's saying 'Brady jump' with no idea how worried I was. I've lost all my patience and decide it's time to leave the mall, sans with what I came for. As I'm leaving, a woman comes up to me and says "we've all been there and you're doing an awesome job mommy." I looked at her and could only say thank you. It was at that very moment that I needed those words from a stranger. Because you know what? It's hard being a mommy. There are great moments and tough moments but boy oh boy we are all in this together!
5. Grandparent Time
My parents traveled down for a day trip to visit last weekend. The weather was perfect and we took advantage of being outside.
We went for lunch, played outside, and took a few trips to the park. This was right before Mr. Brady took a turn for the worst. At least there were a few of us to pass him around during cuddle time.
I recently logged on to this website to make a purchase and somehow ended up with a free monthly trial of Amazon Prime. I'm sure I hit a button by mistake, but oh well! I think I've decided that this website may be trouble for me. I am finding it just too easy to shop, it's so quick and easy to find what I need, the prices are right, and the product is on my doorsteps in two days! Dangerous. I am waiting on my second purchase, which will arrive today. I've heard from many people that they order household items from Amazon, videos and movies, make-up...the list goes on and on. How about you? What do you order from Amazon that I need to know about?
6. Beanies
I am on the hunt for the perfect beanie for the rest of Fall and Winter. I have a couple knit hats that I wear a lot when it gets cold but I want to venture out of my comfort zone a bit and find myself a slouchy one.
I am an abnormally small head (my cousin shares this feature with me) so I really have to hunt for one that doesn't look silly. I am hoping I can find one in a fun color that is $10 or less. Let the hunt begin!
7. Bra Tanks
Let's take a trip back to the late 90's, early 2000's shall we? I swear that was when I could easily find tank tops with built in bras in them. As of late, I have been wanting to find these again and haven't had great luck. After I'm done with a workout, I just want to throw on some sweats and be cozy. Yet, I don't want my ladies to hang to my knees! I'm only getting older and gravity is slowly taking over so I need to get those gals as high as I can! Do you know what I mean? I found the softest, coziest bralette at Old Navy that I wear at night but really wanted to find some soft tanks. I was joking around with the hubs and my mom about this only to come home from work last night to a sweet little package from the hubs. He went out anon a little shopping trip yesterday and picked out two to bring home for me to try. I guess if the hubs could find them, I was really looking in the wrong places!
Well, it's time to get my day started and get the weekend off right. Enjoy your days off and I'll be back next week!
