5 on Friday

1. Real Life #2
Gosh, I just did a post on how we are embracing the month of December-only to realize last night that I am completely behind on two traditions.
Tessa had me unpack our "Advent Calendar" for her prior to Christmas. She has been so excited about it, and little brother is starting to really fancy Mickey too, that it's been hanging in our kitchen for weeks. I have walked passed this calendar hundreds if not thousands of times. I definitely knew we had transferred into December, but I have yet to purchase little candy canes or anything for her to take each day to begin our countdown to Christmas. Mom fail. I'm just glad she's only three and doesn't know the difference!

The other tradition that completely escaped me was finding our Elf on the Shelf. (I really don't know how this is possible because every parent on this earth posted a picture of their family's elf on social media this week).  Ours is still packed away in a Christmas tote in the garage. Tessa didn't care for him "popping" up in the house last year that we actually ended up discontinuing his visits. Even still, now that she is older I would love to give it a try again.

2. The Perfect Accessory
Am I the only out there utterly obsessed with scarves this season? I get dressed in the morning and have felt like many of my outfits aren't complete without this accessory. I invested (and by invested I mean I spent about $15) in this one for the winter. I love all the colors which allows me to wear it with just about everything-and I do!

3. Basement Renno
Our basement project is really coming along. I ventured down there last night to see the progress. Should I admit that's its been a week since I last checked it out? I know it's just a staircase down, but really I find the whole building process non-exciting until I have walls, rooms, and other details.
I was happy to see all our walls are completed, the texturing is done, and all my doors and trim are up. I had to pick my paint colors and submit those on Wednesday. I hope I am happy with my choices!

4. Flying West
Tonight we are leaving on a jet plane to visit David's family and celebrate Christmas (a little early) with them. Even though I am so excited to see everyone, I completely dread flying. It used to be an event that I truly looked forward to. These past ten years or so, my experiences have been nothing short of awful and I loathe that I have to endure the costs, the security, the lines, the packed flights, missing luggage, no room for carry-ons....you get my point.
Here's hoping we have peaceful and successful flights!

5. Angels Among Us
This past week a very unfortunate event occurred in my family. My sister and her boyfriend were involved in an awful motor vehicle accident as they drove home from our family Thanksgiving. There is nothing left of the vehicle, my sister and Troy both had to be assisted from the pick-up, and they were taken by ambulance to the hospital.  They were required to stay there for quite some time. Believe it or not, neither of them endured life threatening injuries but they are in a lot of pain making it hard for them to breath and walk. I know that there were angels watching over them that afternoon that protected them and kept them safe. God is good-please say a prayer for continued healing for both of them.

Sometimes I feel like it takes an event like this to make people count their blessings and/or find their faith-when really we should be doing this every day. I know I'm guilty of this. In fact, it took a doctor telling me I had an unhealthy baby for me to make my faith stronger. Although that probably wasn't how it should have happened, I am glad that it did. Life is so much better when we can find peace and assurance through someone more powerful than ourselves.

  1. A basement reno, how exciting! Picking out paint colors is the best. My kids would flip over that Mickey advent calendar. They are all about Mickey everything. Although, what little kids aren't?

I am hosting a Jameson Monroe giveaway on Our Little Miracles. You should stop by and check it out.
