Our hope was to have a relaxing
weekend. It started off well with a
fabulous dinner and conversational evening with the neighbors. On Saturday, our plans took a turn for the
worst when Tessa was taken by ambulance to the Children’s hospital. She was dangling upside down on our play set
in the backyard and fell onto her neck.
She did not lose consciousness, but was not breathing properly and wasn’t
able to speak to me for nearly ten minutes (which seemed like an eternity as I
was attempting to decipher if there were any cognitive damages). Once she was able to make sound, it was only
a faint cry and no real words. I have never been so scared in my life! What makes it worse was that I was standing
right there; my hands were touching her legs but not fast enough to fully catch
her. David was not home during the
accident, but did make it home only minutes after it all happened.
We never wish these moments to
fall upon us; but looking back at this episode, someone greater than us was in
on the situation as everything lined up for us as it did so many times with
Brady. I won’t go into any more detail
because I am already reliving the visuals of it countless times in my mind. The most important thing is that Tessa is
okay and her body will heal.
I will never be able to thank the
first responders and firefighters enough for what they did for us; how they remained
so calm, how they treated my baby like she was the most important girl in the
world, and how they went above and beyond for David and I so we could ride
along with her in the ambulance and still have transportation to get home. Even though I already have so much respect for these workers, I have a new level of appreciation that excedes anything they could ever imagine.
With the excitement from Saturday,
our Mother’s Day was very low key. My
parents came for a late dinner, but other than that it was a typical Sunday
afternoon. I did try a new recipe that I
got from a dear friend.
She had made an apple crisp dessert at a dinner party she hosted a few weeks back and it was ah-mazing.
